Welcome to WLOS

Wimbledon Light Opera Society puts on musicals and operettas around south-west London. We are a fun, friendly society dedicated to staging entertaining and high-quality shows - and having a great time!

We have just performed Kiss Me Kate and it will take a few days to update the website  so if you can’t find what you are looking for please come back in a few days -  our next production will be Babes in Toyland in Nov 2009. Take a look around our website to find out more about us.

HAVE YOU PERFORMED WITH WLOS?

WLOS is celebrating it’s 80th Anniversary this year (first rehearsal in 1929) and next (first performance in 1930). We are holding a Dinner Dance on Saturday October 17th 2009 and would love to see many of our past members there. If you have performed with WLOS in the past we would love to hear from you. Please contact us so we can send you an invitation to the Dinner Dance: hazelchannon@googlemail.com

Kiss Me Kate (13 - 16 May) was possibly one of our best shows ever. The atmosphere on stage was positively electric - we had great audience who were very enthusiastic. We’ll post a review and some pictures ASAP. Meanwhile - if YOU saw the show and want to comment you can do so by clicking the ‘comment’ button on this page.

We start rehearsals for Babes in Toyland on June 2nd with auditions on Sunday 21st June - details will be on the website in the next few days.

. . . and what do YOU think?

For the ‘official’ NODA review of our last show, Die Fledermaus, see SHOW REVIEWS. A Review of Kiss Me Kate will be posted there ASAP.

We would love to hear what you think of our shows. Here’s a note Spencer received from a friend after she had seen Die Fledermaus.

Hello Spencer,  Just to say how much I enjoyed the show last week, what lovely voices to sit and listen to and understand every word, i was really taken back with the volume of the lead singers voices the women were really quite petite individuals but there voices were so powerful.  Excellent entertainment at such a reasonable cost. What a wonderful night out

 Regards  Margaret

Dear Kiss me Kate!

I am an habitually reluctant visitor to musicals/operas/shows - not only do I hate going to London, but Monteverdi or rock and roll is more my thing - but my husband loves them so I go occasionally (under duress).
However, Kiss me Kate was so enjoyable I might even be enthusiastic about the next one!
Definitely your best show ever - I’ve even found myself humming some of the songs from the show (disgraceful).
Thanks to all from a reluctant convert!

If you have any comments - complementary or otherwise - about what we do - please post them here (click on ‘Leave a comment’ - above) so we can all benefit.

One of the things about this site that makes us most proud about our website is that it has been designed and built by our own, our very own, Alison King . . . in her ’spare time’ when she’s not singing, dancing and acting brilliantly in WLOS productions or working . . . oh, and I mustn’t forget that she also has designed all our posters and flyers for the last five productions (have a look at them on the ‘images and videos > posters’ page).

We like to think that we nurture a lot of talent while thoroughly enjoying ourselves in our highly-rated performances and we are sure that this website will make it possible for a lot more people to see what we are doing, keep up with future plans, find out how to join us and, thanks to a heroic effort by Susan Mills in scanning masses of archival material, learn a lot about - not only our past - but the history of amateur music theatre in general. So feel free to delve and explore and don’t forget to let us have your comments and suggestions. This is just the beginning for us and we anticipate that this site will grow and flourish - with your help.
