Chairman – John Huckle

JoH

I have been involved with the Society for over 20 years and progressed from a humble Raffle ticket seller to Box office manager and then through the rigours of front of house and various back stage work to the occasional performance on the stage.

I was Chairman of the Society for ten years (1990 – 2000) and a National Operatic & Dramatic Association representative for eight years.  Outside WLOS I run a management consultancy business, am a mentor for the Prince’s Trust and I am also treasurer of the Wimbledon Village Hall & Trust (AKA the Village Club).

Deputy Chairman – Jason Thomas

JT

I have performed in the past five WLOS productions since joining in 2009 and have thoroughly enjoyed them all in their many, various ways.   Having been cast as a naval captain in two shows, I am now wary of finding myself ‘In the Same Boat’ again so in our next show I play the man who writes the songs, rather than the one who steers the ship.  Outside WLOS, I enjoy playing football for Merton FC, supporting Norwich City FC, playing with my Godchildren, cooking, eating and making grand plans.

Secretary – Marion Barton

MB

I joined WLOS in 2007, and have played (among others) Young Sally in Follies and Lois in Kiss Me Kate.   I joined the committee a few years ago, and in my current role as Secretary I deal with correspondence, administrate the website and sort the paperwork!  My background as an administrator has been really useful here, but I currently work with children with disabilities and elderly adults in London and Surrey as a Music Therapist.

I have made amazing friends here at WLOS and am pleased to be able to contribute to the ongoing success of the society.  Right now I am balancing my Secretary duties with playing Georgia in Curtains: hard work, but a lot of fun, and it’s great to be working with such a talented cast!

Favourite WLOS memory – Performing in our toe-tapping version of ‘Too darn hot’ in Kiss Me Kate!

Treasurer – Paul Sadler

PS

I joined WLOS in 1986 and have now been Treasurer for over 20 years. I love the warmth and friendliness of the society and the quality of the new members we seem to attract.

As well as singing a number of principal and sub-principal roles I have also played piano, guitar and Double Bass on stage. I have arranged and orchestrated two shows and undertaken orchestral reductions for three more. I have done vocal arrangements for several others as well as for the Associates and Christmas Concerts which I have been organising recently.

Favourite WLOS memory – Hordes of helpers round Huckles’ kitchen table producing ‘cut and paste’ (literally) orchestral parts for Beggar’s Opera.

Business Manager – Naomi Fieldus

NF

I joined WLOS a couple of years ago and have been in almost every show ever since! WLOS has a wonderful community vibe; with members of all ages, backgrounds and occupations, which instills an extra sense of fun and family. Being somewhat of a numbers geek, I have now taken on the role of Business Manager; mainly so that I can rock up to committee meetings in massive horn rimmed glasses and stockings…!

Publicity Officer – Suzannah Bailey

SB

I joined WLOS in 2010 after a few years away from performing to start my career.  I’d previously been involved in a variety of productions, from musicals and review shows to Shakespeare.  As a WLOS member I was a dancer and chorus member in My Fair Lady, Dad’s Army and Singin’ in the Rain, which all gave me fantastic experiences and led to some great friendships too.  As a committee member I’m looking forward to shaping the future of WLOS, setting new challenges for the society and promoting our performances to a wider audience.

Social Secretary – Greg Shaw

General Member – Angela Daniel

AD

Before returning to live in the UK in 2009, I lived in Bangkok, Thailand for 20 years where I helped to run an English speaking community theatre group.  I also co-founded my own company ‘TheatreWorks’ which primarily staged dinner theatre productions.   I joined WLOS in 2010 and performed in Dad’s Army: What a Song and Dance where I had great fun playing Mavis (Pike’s Mum).  I had such a good time and met such nice people that in 2011 I joined the committee and also played ‘Miss Dinsmore’ in Singin’ in the Rain.  My favourite stage roles to date include Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret and Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest.  I have also directed many musicals, revues and pantomimes, including Guys & Dolls, Annie, The Wizard of Oz, Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, Honk, Trial by Jury and most recently, HMS Pinafore (re-launched) in 2011 for WLOS.  At the time of writing I am playing the dreadful Jessica Cranshaw in WLOS’ production of  Curtains.

General Member – Janet Huckle

JaH

I have been a member of WLOS for many years performing in the Chorus and in Principal roles.  I served on the Committee for many years as social secretary and business manager.  I have Directed shows for the society, worked back stage and take the lead in costuming many of our shows.  Outside WLOS I was one of the founders of the Ilex Youth Theatre in Surbiton where I also teach English & Drama.

General Member – Candice Newton

General Member – Nick Simpson

NS

I was introduced to WLOS  as a member of the audience for their impressive production of My Fair Lady at Wimbledon Theatre in the summer of 2010.  A casual conversation post show along the lines of “Iwouldn’t mind doing something like that” saw me drafted in for the next show where I played Private Joe Walker in Dad’s Army – What A Song And Dance.  I’ve since played RF Simpson (Head of Monumental Pictures) in Singin’ In The Rain, Dick Deadeye (not a very nice man) in HMS Pinafore – Relaunched and I’m currently rehearsing for Daryl Grady (Journalist and theatre critic) in Curtains!

Favourite WLOS memory – It would have to be the whirlwind experience of Dad’s Army. From nervously arriving at my first rehearsal and hoping I wouldn’t be laughed at and sent home to – 6 weeks later – performing on stage as a principal.

General Member – Amanda Stewart

AS

I joined WLOS in 2010 for My Fair Lady, which I thoroughly enjoyed and made some really good friends.  I have 2 years pervious experience as Secretary for the Edinburgh Gilbert and Sullivan Society. I’m hoping that my 16 years of am-dram experience will contribute to my position of Auditions Secretary for WLOS. In the ‘real world’ I work in Future Media at the BBC.
