PRESS RELEASE
Is it a pantomime? Is it an operetta? Is it Music Hall?

Well, to be honest, Babes is a little bit of all of those things. And yes – kids will love it but so will any adult who enjoys good music and a humourous script. Take the pantomime tradition of ‘tinkering’ with fairy stories, add tunes from Victor Herbert – one of America’s most acclaimed songwriters – blend with an enthusiastic cast of adults and children, season with Wimbledon Light Opera’s 80 years of experience and you have a heart-warming, hilarious and melodious show.

Babes in Toyland will appeal to music lovers of all ages . So is it any wonder that The Dramatic Mirror (New York theatre trade paper) declared ‘It will prove a perfect dream of delight to the children, and will recall the happy days of childhood to those who are facing the stern realities of life’.

If audiences in this country have come across ‘Babes’ it is most likely to be the highly comical film version starring Laurel and Hardy or the Disney production featuring Ray Bolger as the wicked Barnaby or even the television version with Drew Barrymore. But now’s your chance to experience, for the first time in the UK, a show that has been a perennial classic in the USA for more than a century.

Wimbledon Light Opera Society’s production of Babes in Toyland will be at the Secombe Theatre, Cheam Road, Sutton on Thursday/Friday November 19/20th (7:30), Saturday 21st November (2:00/6:30) and Sunday 22nd November (2:00). Tickets £14.50/£8 for children with £12 concessions on Thursday evening and Sunday matinee. Theatre box office 020 8770 6990 or book online at www.wlos.org.uk/tickets
