The Pirates of Penzance (Australian Version)
WLOS is delighted to bring this wonderfully updated version of The Pirates of Penzance to the stage, which allows today’s theatregoer a fresh look at this classic. Almost all the original songs and tunes are included – there is a ‘pop feel’ to many of the chorus numbers but the most beautiful solos are true to the original. The end product keeps the spirit of Gilbert and Sullivan, but is much more accessible for today’s audiences. It is the story of Pirates for a musical theatre age. Simon Gallaher’s Essgee Entertainment has brought Gilbert and Sullivan into the twenty-first century through modern orchestrations, a unique and funky female chorus and a fabulous megamix finale. In the producers’ own words – this is pure musical theatre it is not an operetta!
